Joseph Byerly Home.
1 mile east of Bridgewater, Virginia, on North River.
1820 to 1825, approximately.
The first owner and builder was Joseph Byerly, then the widow, Sarah Byerly, later George W. Berlin, later in bankruptcy, then sold to Woodrow Landis, the present owner.
See form 3686, attached.
This was an ante-bellum home, built in the early history of the county. The barns and outbuildings were burned during Sheridan’s Raid. The house was saved by the earnest pleading of the widow Byerly, whose merchant mill was also spared by her pleading.
