Verona Exit 227; go east on Rt. 612 approximately 10 mi; cross the railroad tracks; and the

church is on the right.

Cherished Memories.

Catherine Nora (Diehl) Craun, 87, of Grottoes died Oct. 15, 2003, at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center
after not being well for the past year. A daughter of the late Clark and Nora Roadcap Diehl, she was born Nov.
28, 1915, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Craun was a member of Mill Creek Church of the Brethren
but attended Crimora UMC. On Dec. 31, 1936, she married Chester Franklin Craun, who preceded her in death
Feb. 9, 1988. Surviving are three children, Betty C. Woodson and husband Edgar of Greenwood, Doris C.
Carpenter and husband Charles of Grottoes, and Larry F. Craun and wife Joyce of Mount Solon; six
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Nelson Diehl and wife Hazel of Mount Crawford and
Lloyd Diehl of Harrisonburg; three sisters-in-law, Naomi Diehl of Harrisonburg, Edna Diehl of Mount Crawford
and Marie Hicks of Winchester and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin
Diehl, Harry Diehl and Lynwood Diehl and two sisters, Nancy Lam and Alda Good. Funeral services will be held
on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at 4 p.m. at Crimora United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Edgewood
Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the Lindsey Weyers
Cave Funeral Home or at her late residence any time. Those desiring to do so may make memorial contributions
to the Crimora United Methodist Church.

Benjamin Via Shifflett, 85, of Harriston, died June 4, 1954, after a long illness. Born Dec. 25, 1868, in
Greene Co., Mr. Shifflett was the son of the late Benjamin J. and Julia Shifflett. He was a farmer most of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gurnie Coleman Shifflett; four daughters, Mrs. Walter Haislip, Harriston; Mrs. J.
C. Grimm, Humelstone, Pa.; Mrs. N. B. Bruce, Crimora; and Miss Ruby Shifflett, at home; three sons, Harry
Shifflett, Waynesboro; Henry Shifflett, Grottoes; and Sherman Shifflett, at home; 26 grandchildren; and 17 great-
grandchildren. Friends visited Etter Funeral Home. His funeral service was held June 7th at Harriston Methodist
Church, conducted by Dr. A. E. Shelton. Interment was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were James
Shifflett, Charles Shifflett, Eskew Patterson, James Breeden, Jerome Kelley, and Wilbert Royer. Flower bearers
will be grandchildren of Mr. Shifflett.

Irene Mae Sprouse Shifflett, 80, passed away Feb. 4, 2011, at Augusta Health. She was born on July 3,
1930, a daughter of the late William H. and Mae I. McDaniel Sprouse. She was a homemaker and a member of
Crimora UMC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George H. Shifflett in 1986
and a sister, Agnes Bowman. Survivors include a son, Jeffrey “Jeff” Shifflett and his wife Debbie of
Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Heather Shifflett of Richmond; four brothers, Billy Sprouse of Greenwood, Bobby
